• About Alexandra Spessot, M.D.

Who am I and what services do I provide?

I am a board-certified psychiatrist, a physician, a mother, a spouse, a daughter, and a sibling. I am both a teacher and a student. I will bring all of these perspectives, and more, to our work together.

I consider us to be partners in your care. Your role is to be as open and honest as possible with me about your experience, and my role is to hear and understand you as best I can. When it comes to treatment, I will make suggestions based on my knowledge and expertise, and you will make decisions about how to move forward.

Mental illness does not occur in a vacuum, so my approach to treatment will always consider your physical health, your lifestyle, your family life, your work environment, and all other relevant aspects of your experience.

Together we will create a treatment plan that is individualized to best meet your needs. Your plan might include treatment with a medication, one-on-one psychotherapy, psychotherapy with one or more family members, group psychotherapy, or other lifestyle interventions.

    Here are my professional credentials:

    • B.A.: The Johns Hopkins University
    • M.D.: Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons
    • General Psychiatry Residency: Duke University School of Medicine
    • Member of the American Psychiatric Association, North Carolina Psychiatric Association, and North Carolina Medical Society
